Director Naga’s first film after his trial with supernatural thriller in small screen, like hugely, popular Marmadesam and Vidathu Karuppu. Here comes a movie from S Production of director Shankar who has already produced a supernatural thriller Eram. Should pat Shankar for giving chances to first time directors
Ananthapurathu Veedu is set in the ancestral home of a business man Bala (played by Nanda). The house has been empty for 15 years after the fortuitous death of Bala’s parents. 15 years later Bala comes back to his inherited home with his wife Revathy (Chaya Singh) and their speech impaired son Ananth (played by Master Aryan). Revathy encounters the spirits that are living in the house and tries to persuade Bala to move out. But Bala does not believe her. Ananth also encounters the spirits but is not able to tell anybody about them. In the mean time Revathy discovers that Bala is in debt and so they are stuck at the house till he is clear of his financial problems. Whether Bala is able to resolve his financial situation or not and the role of the spirits in it form the rest of the movie. This movie is different from the rest of the supernatural thrillers in that, the spirits in this movie are actually Bala’s parents and they try to help their son and his family. So this movie is more of a family film than a thriller.
The little kid Aryan has done a splendid role as the speech impaired kid. Jeeva who acts the role of Bala’s business associate has done a neat role as well. Chaya Singh and Nanda have done their act well. Cinematography is passable.
The most disappointing thing of this movie is director Naga himself. Movie is a family entertainer rather than a supernatural thriller, confusion over Genre is not healthy for a movie. The movie is not so bad, but just feels let down considering Naga’s caliber.
