I am not a great fan of movies
dubbed into neighbor languages, because the director creates a movie keeping in
mind a cultural backdrop and viewers savor. The very essence of this goes out,
which makes the dubbed film lack realism. Also the script should be written, in
a way audiences worldwide can relate. Take an example of Arundhati, which was a
massive massive hit in the dubbed Tamil version. A movie like Anwar gets dubbed
because of the little reach Prithvi has in Tamil Nadu. However Anwar definitely
lacks in authenticity and nativity. This however is the downfall of the DUBBED
Anwar version, even with its crispness.
The movie starts with Coimbatore bomb blast, and series of communal arrests in the city of Coimbatore. Case headed by Prakash Raj is hunting down for clues. Now enters Anwar (Prithiviraj) in parallel, gets caught for a Hawala smuggling case, and goes behind bar. Soon he gets hooked to Babu Sait (Lal) in jail, and gets drawn to his speech and gets into anti social ways. Babu Sait out of his influence gets Anwar out, and soon assigns mission critical jobs on creating communal disturbances in the society. Anwar becomes the best man for Sait and gets introduced to Basheer Bai (Sampath). Basheer assigns high profile jobs of serial blasts in Mumbai (I wonder why Mumbai is chosen so often). Anwar gets through the plan initially but due to few flash back circumstances leads Anwar not finish Basheer's plan. The climax of the story shows how Anwar manages to cease the plan and prevent serial blasts.
Amal Neerad, an long time associate of RGV, has created a script with lot of intensity but lacks the apprehension or the twist needed for a genre like this. You can get lot of shades of RGV, especially in the narrating style, fight composition (slow motion kicks and punch) and dialogues. His casting is pretty good, but you don’t get hooked into the film. Nevertheless you can see an honest effort from Amal. Hats off to him, that he did not inject too many masala ingredients into a kind of serious movie
Tamil audience would be surprised to see Prithi’s performance, PrakshRaj, Samptah and Lal comes in and leaves an impact on the film. There is nothing much in the music, cinematography at times is very weak and even here you get shades of RFV film’s.
Overall a decent movie, and when you see the dubbed version, you will feel why did not we watch it in Malaylam itself.
Theater Exp: There was no takers, however this is the second week. You get to cash in on the first weekend ONLY.
