2008-2011 A tough journey for this movie, cast and the crew. Won the prestigious South Asian Film Award, but still did not find its takers due to censorship problem. However the producer had to fight a case in High court to get this “new age” movie on screens. The Movie essentially revolves around 3 different stories under an umbrella of MAFIA/ Underworld crime.
Director Thiagarajan Kumara raja’s inspiration from god father is evident in this movie. But sure kudos for his efforts along with Charan (Producer), Yuvan Shankar raja (Music), P.S.Vinod (Cinematography), and K.L Praveen and N.B Srikanth (Editing). Special mention to Yuvan’s BG score and Vinod’s camera angles and filters used reflects a strong technical team.
Sampath wants to handle a drug deal worth 2 core rupees single handedly to establish him while Singaperumal wants to cut off Sampath by a smart move. The story takes a turn where the drug happens to land in hands of a poor guy (Somasundaram), who wants to make some money out of that.
A parallel story line where Singaperumal’s assistant Sappai (Ravi Krishna) an innocent guy tries to move fly away with Singaperumal’s keep Subbu (Yasmin Ponnappa ) and help her from the clutches of Singaperumal.
The entire cast right from Jackie Sharrof, Yasmin, Ravi Krishna (surprisingly), the goons, Sampath and special mention to the young boy.. has done a near perfect roles which shifts this movie to another level.
The movie moves towards the climax as it show cases how each ones motive is achieved or they fail. The twist and the turns the way the movie ends is really nice. The beauty of the movie is how screen play and narration is different. The movie has a slow narration but has an effective fast screenplay. This very way of storytelling may confuse an audience who does not have exposure to international movie. The negative aspect of this movie could be his slow pace, confusion over the story and adulterated gross words used.
Over all: A Good movie and enjoy the taste of Mafia – Chennai’s underworld. Some of the action scenes, and dialogues are strictly for 18 +.
