The recent trend of not so popular movies turning out to be a hit continues. Coming of that trend is the debutant director Surkunam;s Kalavani which blends humor retribution with amazing rural romance. The major plus for this movie is the backdrop of the locations, screenplay and of course the casting blended with decent music. The locations were made to look extra striking with incredible cinematography with text book style lights. Vimal (Arikki, of Pasanga fame) is an ideal match for his rustic lover boy look with sense of mischief and rebelliousness. He has definitely graduated to the next level of acting, by proving that he can carry a film on his shoulders. Oviya (Maheshwari) is adequate, and apt for the role. Must say a huge plus for this movie is Ganja Kaurpu, Sharanya and of course the Maheshwari’s brother. What it works for the movie big time is that seldom we see the people on screen who seem so real.
Story of two cross roads villages in grudge has been told in a pretty new way in Surkunam’s plot. Arriki meets Maheswari in one of his habitual flirt tricks, and eventually falls for her from the enemy precinct. Arriki is pampered by Saranya with the money her Dubai-base husband sends to build their under construction house. Arikki drinks with his group friends, play pranks, and even kidnap girls for fun. Once on a kidnap run, he will be caught by his own father who returns from Dubai. He is shaken with the situation and to add more to his fright he finds the house is still under construction. On the kidnap experiment, Arriki looses Maheswari confidence on him and the feud between the villages grow.
The rest of the story is how, Arriki impresses Maheswari and overcomes Maheswari family and village to end up getting married on the run on his house warming day. The last 45 minutes of the movie is quite fast, and falls well in the movie. But guys just watch for the last 10 minutes of the climax, it is absolutely funny, and even a grimmest of person can spare a smile. Should congratulate the entire team for this very nice movie
