Kulla Nari Kootam, a cast
completely re assembled from the Venilla Kabai team. This movie at large
clicks, with wafer thin script but a strong and profound screenplay. As such
the tile misleads somewhat, it is not a cunning, revenge movie but a light
hear-ted romantic wit. First of all you should applaud the film for it unadulterated
screenplay with no crass comedy or skin show. Surprising there was no out of
spending music releases, it was a simple release where the hero and the team
went to ARR studio and pursued the master to release the music with couple of
snaps for the press and papers.
Director Sri Balaji an assistant director of Venilla, has done a neat job for a first timer. He has assembled a performing cast and has maintained a screenplay so that his skeletal story and few mistakes are taken care off. Selvaganesh BG score is ok, even though his tunes are familiar, couple of songs in the movie is good and it is pleasant to your ears. Editing and cinematography could have been little better, since the camera angles and lighting are too familiar and there is no freshness in what you see.
Vishnu, Ramya and all other supporting cast has done a super good job, very subtle and apt. Couple of Vishnu’s friends in the movie during the second half is a scream. Vishnu’s family in this movie, esp. his mother and his brother are so natural.
Vishnu as Vettri (Vetti as his bro calls him) is an MBA grad and looking out for a fitting job. The first half goes riding with romance and some wit between the leads and Vishnu’s family. Most of the scenes in the first half goes how, a mis typed recharge of BSNL mobile number, turns the hero to meet Remya and falls in love. The twist of the story, without any astonishment makes Vishu look out for a job as a Sub Inspector. Hero travel to Chennai, and even though he is far superior of the selection lot, he does not get selected. The rest of the story is how a group of strange individuals join hands, make friends and dethrone a senior officer who runs a scam of selecting candidates for money. The last 5 minutes of the movie is fantastic, reminds me of Kalavani. Also a special mention on couple of scenes where Vishnu’s mother bonds with Remya and the scene where Vishnu takes his brother to see his girl
Downside of the movie is, the script, there is nothing there. One-liners from Vishnu, even though it is hilarious but does not get connected with the audience. Also there are scenes which are so weird and make you pronounce that this is disappointing
Another problem for this movie is the publicity factor, there was nothing and there is also a rumor running around that the problem the producer had distributing this movie with a leading production house, who recently flunked with Ullaga Nayagan :).
The house:
Since there was no publicity, the big Devi was half full on its first day. But the crowd because of the screenplay was in splits and noisy. I expect this movie to have a decent word of mouth and could well be a sleeper hit considering the low budget. Also the factor that it would have a decent first weekend run because India is not playing any matches and it does not have any competition from other releases and has some of the best screen in Chennai
